A rainy weekend in DC...

I went to visit daughter Sarah in DC last weekend.

Here's the report:

Friday...

Left LAN about 9:30am. It's a short (1 hour) flight and there were no problems. When I got to DCA, Sarah picked me up and we drove to the hotel (Hampton Inn) in Crystal City. The room was nice. Same as every other Hampton Inn I've stayed at.

We decided to walk a couple of blocks to find a place for lunch. We found a good place, even if it was a little expensive. $28 for both of us. Surprisingly, it was in the same building as PBS.

The building
Just for the heck of it, we went to the PBS office. I introduced myself as working at a PBS station. A guy standing there said he'd be glad to take us on a tour. His name was Richard Peck, and he's an engineer.

So, we saw a lot of servers, edit suites, and electronics.
In the lobby. There's a WKAR sign there somewhere.
 Then, we went sightseeing.

I had always wanted to see Arlington House at Arlington National Cemetery. We took the Metro most of the way, and then we walked. A lot. Uphill.

(Okay, it was downhill on the way back, but still...)

Arlington House
On the way, we passed by the Kennedy grave sites.

JFK and Jackie

Further up the hill, we went in Arlington House. Built by Martha Washington's grandson and where Robert E. Lee lived when he married Martha Washington's great-granddaughter.

Robert E. and Mary were married beneath the middle arch. This is the Family Dining Room.

The Morning Room.

Outside, the view was spectacular. It would have been better if the sky was blue.

Lower left are people at the Kennedy grave.

I had to take one with a plane.

Jefferson Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

After leaving Arlington we decided to go downtown to Ford's Theater. When we got there, both the theater and the museum were closed because there was a play gong on.

So we went across the street to the Petersen House, where Lincoln died.

This is not the real bed, but this is how it looked.
At this point, we were tired. So, back to the hotel. Ordered Pizza Hut. Delivery.

Saturday...

We had tickets for the Tigers/Nationals exhibition game. Good seats.

It was raining.

But, we got to meet Teddy Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln.

Me with Teddy R.
Sarah with Abe. They are each covering up the other's team emblem.
We were there a couple hours before they canceled the game. Then, we went downtown again. We ended up sitting in the front window of Fuddruckers, watching people walk in the rain for about an hour and a half.

Across from the Gallery Place Metro near Chinatown
Then we went back to the hotel. We had a nice dinner at Hops in Alexandria.

Sunday...

Sarah drove me to DCA for my 10:30am flight.
I took a picture of Detroit.

Downriver with Lake St. Clair at the top.
Downtown

I had a great weekend with my daughter.
