Christmas season

As I write this, it is 2 days after Christmas. All is calm; all is bright.

Christmas was very nice, but very low key. Sarah slept late, and (probably for the first time) we had breakfast before we opened presents. Sarah had been asking for bacon for a few days, so I made that. And, I found that Goodrich's sells excellent Polish sausage. Hooray for breakfast!

We all got stuff that we wanted. We are lucky that we have the resources to make that possible.

The day after Christmas (yesterday), Terese, Tom and Chris came to visit. They arrived from Mississippi on Christmas Eve, and are staying with Dick Stuckman. We had a nice visit. We talked, played dominoes, and had barbecued ribs for dinner. Not a bad day.

Last Saturday, we went to Yale to visit Aunt Pete. She's 94 now, and I think she's doing pretty well. She said that she was feeling "a little funny in the head" when we arrived. I wish she wouldn't fix lunch for us when we visit, but once again she did. Sarah showed her pictures for Oman, and she really seemed to like that. She also liked the MSU cheese that we brought for a present. Jo and Carl came by for a while, and that was nice because I hadn't seen them in probably a couple of years. It was a cold, rainy day but the driving wasn't too bad. It could have been a lot worse. Anyway, I'm glad we went. Aunt Pete is special.

Today is just another day of relaxing. We are going up north tomorrow, so we have to do some prep for that.

It is a little disconcerting that I really have no idea what day it is without consulting some reference. I wonder if that is how it is going to be after I retire? That is, assuming that I can retire.

It is cold out (24°), but the sun is out (so, I am happy). It snowed last night, and we have about 2" on the ground. I shoveled the sidewalk in my slippers this morning. I wish I would have worn gloves, though. Anyway, with the sun shining it was no big deal, and it got the blood flowing.
