I have thought about it for a long time. Always thinking "I'm going to retire soon". Well, it's not happening today, but today was a big step.
I set a date: January 4th, 2016. The day after my 44th anniversary at Broadcasting Services. Longer than anyone else.
It seems like a long time from now. 299 days. But just the fact that I've set a date is very important to me. 44 years will be enough. I'm through.
In terms of work, I will do one more season of "Curious Crew" and one more season of "QuizBusters". And then I'll be done. I won't be doing "State of the State" next year. No more March pledge. Maybe one more "Evening with the Governor" in December.
I've produced more hours of TV than anyone else has done here, including more hours of live TV.
I just have to make it through 299 more days.
