A few days in TC

I came up north on Thursday morning. All by myself. Everybody else has to work the rest of the week, so Tamsyn and Sarah are coming up Saturday morning and leaving Monday. I'm staying until Wednesday.

I didn't do much on Thursday. I had planned on reading by the lake, but the air show planes were practicing in the afternoon, and they make a lot of noise. I couldn't read.

On Friday morning I drove to Whaleback Natural Area by Leland just to take a walk in the woods. I did, and it was nice even though it is mostly uphill...and then downhill. I got my exercise. After that, I went to South Beach in Leland and took a few pictures. Beautiful day.

After lunch I went downtown to watch the air show dress rehearsal. I watched most of it from my usual downtown location, sitting in the shade on the beach at the end of Barlow St. When it was time for the Blue Angels to fly, I decided to go over to the breakwall and watch. I always wondered what it would look like from there, but I never went because there is no shade. I figured that if I didn't go this time, I likely never would. It's the normal show, but without the huge crowd.

Anyway, it was quite different watching from that close. At one point, the guy next to me (who had watched the Thursday practice) said that following one particular maneuver, one of the Blue Angels was going to come real close to us. When the time came, I could see one plane...REAL low, real fast...heading straight for where I was standing. All I could say was "Holy crap"!! before he banked toward the bay. It's about as close as you can get to an air show.

See the Blue Angels...
